Don’t flood Harrison with another MASSIVE apartment complex.
Who We Are
We are a group of concerned residents and neighbors of Harrison and Rye who oppose the building of a 7-story multi-family apartment complex within the flood zone at 67 Grant Ave in Downtown Harrison, bordering Oakland and Park Avenues. We created this website to spread the word about the development, the impact it will have on our neighborhood, and to rally the community’s support against it.
Why We Oppose It
-
Flooding
The site is in the Beaver Swamp Brook Wetland Conservation Area and prone to heavy flooding, impacting nearby areas of Harrison and Rye. Construction in this sensitive ecosystem will exacerbate flooding and harm local wildlife habitats.
Flooding would also prevent emergency personnel from accessing the building, putting future residents and first responders at risk.
-
Parking
The parking for over 180 vehicles is within the flood zone. During flood-producing storms, the volume of vehicles in the flood plain will exacerbate flooding, contaminate the waterways, and at minimum overwhelm neighboring streets when tenants attempt to relocate to higher ground.
-
Tone-Deaf
Placing a massive apartment complex within a quiet single and two-family residential zone is tone-deaf and will negatively change the character and appearance of our neighborhood.
Furthermore, the seven-story building, complete with balconies and a rooftop pool deck, would allow tenants to look directly into the backyards of neighboring homes, violating the privacy of long-standing residents.
