Flood History
The site of the proposed development is in a Wetland Conservation Area (Beaver Swamp Brook) and prone to heavy flooding. This flooding is not only prevalent on Grant Ave, but also the surrounding streets of Park Avenue, Bradford Avenue, Coolidge Avenue, Wilson Drive, Glen Oaks Drive and Florence Avenue in Harrison and Rye.
Over the years this area has been prone to heavy flooding, with streets such as Park Avenue turned into a river with feet of water. This flooding has penetrated resident’s basements and garages and has resulted in the total loss of parked vehicles as well as contamination of the wildlife area.
Construction in this sensitive ecosystem will only exacerbate flooding and harm local wildlife habitats.
Flooding would also prevent emergency personnel from accessing the building, putting future residents and first responders at risk. Additionally, the growing prevalence of electric vehicles increases the danger of short circuits and potential fires during floods, further endangering the health and safety of our community.
